THE STORY BEHIND “OTTO”

Johnnie Otto Kveton - Our Grandfather and Namesake

He taught us how to hunt and fish responsibly, and that you always eat what you take. He taught us the value of hard work and the satisfaction of building something with our own two hands. In the Spring of 2001, our grandfather invited us out to his land to help build his house alongside our extended family. It wasn’t the first adventure he included us on, and it wouldn’t be the last, but it was the very first time we saw a house go together, nail by nail, board by board, section by section, perfectly planned and orchestrated by him so that there was little to no waste and the day’s projects were completed by supper time. To this day that home opens its doors to over 40 aunts, uncles, cousins, grandkids and great grandkids for holidays and get togethers, and has provided so many great memories for all of us (especially since the new bunkhouse addition added room for 10-15 more to sleep comfortably). Our grandfather is no longer with us but his memory lives on in each of us. We hope to carry on our grandfather’s legacy and emulate his discipline to never call a job finished until it is done correctly and to the quality standards he’d be proud of.
